In Athens, the relocation of refugees who were previously residing in a makeshift camp in the Pedion tou Areos park to the newly built open reception centre in Votanikos was completed today. The centre has registered 207 persons, while 30 refugees refused to be relocated. The Pedion tou Areos park has now been emptied and cleaned.
The new facility in Votanikos is made up of containers which may accommodate up to 600 persons, each container including a kitchen, bathroom and beds. The provision of food three times per day is made by the government through the assistance of UNHCR and the Red Cross.
